Every year, Foundation’s Board of Governors brings together our medical community with administrative leaders to discuss our priorities, look back on our accomplishments and achievements against the prior year’s priorities, and to define new ones for the year ahead. In late 2016, this retreat focused enormous discussion on the stresses and challenges of our provider staff, managing a work-life balance and the challenges that come with practicing medicine in a difficult environment. 

Southern New Hampshire Health System is proud to be a leader in the fight to assure proper care for patients coping with mental health issues. Along with the many innovative programs in our health system designed to help improve care coordination for behavioral health patients, we are proud to be leading the Greater Nashua Integrated Delivery Network, a collaboration of 29 physical and mental healthcare, substance use treatment, and social service support providers and organizations whose goal is to improve the health of those in our community who struggle with mental and behavioral health issues.

In 2013, Gregory Mertz wrote an article for Physicians Practice that addressed the pros and cons of Hospital Employment vs. Private Practice. At the time, the Medical Group Management Association reported that more than 50 percent of physicians are now employed directly by a hospital(s) or by organizations affiliated with health systems. In fact, that number is even higher today.

Nashua, NH, located just 45-minutes from Boston is an ideal location for families who want to enjoy one of the country’s most desirable cities without the price tag of a major urban area. In New Hampshire, there is no state income or sales tax. In fact, those two facts alone have made many people originally from Massachusetts decide to relocate to southern New Hampshire to take advantage of the great cost of living.
